- Biotechnology
Ms. Ramjitha P. is a passionate plant biotechnology scientist with expertise in tissue culture, molecular biology, and genetic engineering. She currently serves as Assistant Professor (Biotechnology) at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Pattambi, where she is actively engaged in research, teaching, and extension activities.
She holds an M.Sc. (Ag.) in Plant Biotechnology from Kerala Agricultural University, with research focused on in vitro regeneration and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in tomato for developing resistance against Groundnut Bud Necrosis Virus (GBNV). Her work contributed to the development of transgenic plants through coat protein-mediated resistance.
She began her career as a Biotechnologist at the Spices Board, where she established a tissue culture laboratory. She later served as Agricultural Officer in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, gaining extensive experience in quality planting material production, agricultural programme implementation, and farmer support systems.
Her current research includes the development of low-cost organic media for tissue culture (patent under progress) and micropropagation of Aglaonema for large-scale multiplication. She is committed to advancing sustainable biotechnological solutions and effective technology transfer to farmers.
